Bethesda has permanently banned players of Fallout 76 (an online action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios) for homophobic attacks in the game.

One group of Fallout 76 players was heard saying this in a video, over proximity chat:

We have come to eliminate all gays.

That incident happened two weeks ago says Eurogamer. It lasted around 10 minutes of homophobic slurs on another group while being hunted down in-game.

Fallout 76 players coexist on one map and can team-up, trade, and do other in-game activities. But in this case, this platform was used to harass other players.

AJ, one of the victims in the said incident, recorded a video of the in-game harassment. He shared the video on Twitter mentioning the Fallout 76 developer, Bethesda.

So @bethesda, how do we report people in @Fallout? @ChipWhitehouse @Handsandhead and I literally had our characters hunted down and killed by homophobic players. I’ll post more of the video in a thread. Strong language warning.

Called themselves the “gay eliminators” “cleansing the wasteland of the queers” “know what we did to your people back then, we killed them” THIS is the stuff said to us tonight when playing Fallout. @bethesda @BethesdaStudios @Fallout #Fallout #Fallout76

Bethesda first banned the offending players for 3 days only. But after thoroughly reviewing the video, they decided to throw them a lifetime ban instead.

One of the offending players said he has no regrets on the homophobic attacks he and his team made, and he also wouldn’t apologize.

It was just a late night of having fun and after the first encounter (seen on my channel) we felt it would be fun to offend them somehow. You can call that evil but I think it’s just playful immaturity.

Meanwhile, AJ and his team found the homophobic attacks disgusting.

I got really angry, too. These guys were running around targeting people and what if they targeted a kid playing that was struggling with their identity? What if they said all those things to someone that was playing solo and didn’t have anyone to talk to?

That can really mess someone up. Playing a game to escape reality and then that happens. That’s why we need to be able to report these people and why companies need to do something about reports.

Although one can block other players in Fallout 76, there’s no report button to notify Bethesda of what’s going on in the game. Currently, the most popular way to report other players to Bethesda is to post your concern on social media sites.
